Stoke Builders was created as a kid's riding program within the SDBA in April 2019. It was about getting our own children out riding with others and helping young riders with technique, safety and stoke!
The first Stoke Builders session had a VERY low turnout, basically it was my kids and a friends kid. I felt a bit discouraged but what really blew me away was the number of adults that showed up ready to help and mentor. That was when I knew the passion was there within the community and where there is passion there is possibilities. The word started to spread about Stoke Builders and we got more and more kids at each session. It has been so amazing to watch these young riders grow with Stoke over the years and excel in their riding within our community and local race series, the PNWMA.
Stoke Builders really has been a gateway to my involvement in the dirt bike community. In 2019 I joined the board for the Squamish Dirt Bike association. Along with our great team of board members we put on our local race the Mini Cat Scratch (kids only race) in June 2022 and in September 2023 the 2 day Cat Scratch hare scramble returned. This had been a goal of the club as we hadn't hosted a race since 2016.
In 2021 I approached the board of the PNWMA (Pacific Northwest Motorcycle Association) about adding kids races to the series, I was aware that this was a goal of the PN but more work meant they needed more people so that is how I found myself on the board. We just completed our second season of kids racing in the series and it has been immensely successful! It has helped to grow the race series exponentially by making the races true family events. It has also given a place for the Stoke racers to show off their skills and excel. At every race this season you could find the podium full of Stoke racers, a very proud moment for me! I
In 2022 I was nominated by dear friends for the TD Thanks You community service award. The information I had about the nomination was next to nothing through the process and the chances of Stoke Builders being chosen seemed very low given the lack of support for motorized sports. To my great shock and surprise I was ambushed on June 23, 2022 by the amazing team for TD. They had accomplished the impossible task of organizing the whole community to be at the awards ceremony here in Squamish without my knowledge, Stoke Builders was chosen for the national award! It is all documented in the video check out the link below!
In 2023 I started The Stoke Moto Society, a non profit to build funding to help support young riders and to continue to expand Stoke Builders programs to other communities. I look forward to continuing to grow the Stoke community and supporting young riders along their journey, wherever that may lead.
We are striving to provide a variety of opportunities for young riders to learn, grow, and succeed in the world of dirt bike racing. Our program includes regular training sessions, where riders can receive expert guidance and develop safe riding habits.
We also offer special guests clinics, featuring professional racers and industry experts who can share their knowledge and experience with our young riders.
